2022 Acura TLX vs 2022 Acura TLX Type S
Serving Memphis, TN
At Acura of Memphis, our customers often inquire about the differences between the TLX sedan’s trim levels. For the 2022 model year, this small luxury sedan is available in five distinctive trims. The current options are the base trim level, the Technology, the A-Spec, the Advance, and the Type S. As you compare the models, it makes sense to look at the base and top trim levels offer. With this in mind, what are the essential differences between the 2022 Acura TLX and the TLX Type S?
Regardless of the TLX trim that you select, you can expect your new Acura sedan to produce excitement behind the wheel. The base trim features a four-cylinder, turbo 2.0-liter engine linked with a 10-speed auto transmission. A front-wheel drive system is standard, or you can upgrade to a Super-Handling system with an all-wheel drive. The TLX Type S receives 355 horsepower from its V6, turbo 3.0-liter engine. This option has the same transmission as in the base trim level, and the Super-Handling system is standard. Additional mechanical features in the Type S are an adaptive suspension system, a Sport+ driving mode, extra chassis bracing, rev-matching and Brembo brakes.
While these two versions of the TLX share many design elements, the Type S stands apart with a few extras. The TLX comes with a hexagonal unit on the nose that displays a pentagon-style grille and a downturned lower fascia. It is also designed with a sharp bolt of LED light that underscores the headlights and a crisp, cascading hood. Equipment on the base trim level includes heated side mirrors, a sunroof, and 18-inch alloy wheels. On the Type S, you will find all-season performance tires, 20-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, LED puddle lights, power-folding side mirrors, individualized grille mesh, and aerodynamic accents.
Across all trims, the 2022 Acura TLX is well-appointed with premium features that today’s drivers want. The base trim, for example, has gear like remote engine start, a wireless charging pad, a heated steering wheel, a 10.2-inch central display screen, a 10-speaker sound system, faux leather material, a two-zone climate control system, smart device integration, a wireless hotspot, AcuraLink and USB ports. Safety equipment in all trims includes:
- Forward collision mitigation
- Lane departure mitigation
- Lane-keep assist
- A multi-view backup camera
- Adaptive cruise control
The Type S builds on these features with items like front and rear heated seats, a 10.5-inch heads-up display, and a surround-view camera.
