The Acura TLX has been completely reimagined for 2021, both inside and out. The new model year marks the launch of the TLX’s second generation, and Acura has put a lot of time and thought into improving upon the already exciting outgoing TLX model.
First and foremost, it’s important to note that the 2021 Acura TLX features its new platform, and it also features several new exciting powertrain options. The standard engine for the 2021 Acura TLX is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which pumps out a thrilling 272 horsepower. The base engine for the 2020 TLX is a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with a horsepower rating of just 206 horsepower. The new model gets 66 more horsepower from the get-go! Although, the 2020 Acura TLX is also available with a 3.5-liter V6, which produces 290 horsepower. If you can’t get enough power, there’s also the 2021 Acura TLX Type S, which features a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine, which is estimated to create 355 horsepower. The new TLX gets a 10-speed automatic transmission while the 2020 TLX was only available with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Another exciting performance upgrade is the switch to a double-wishbone front suspension setup from a MacPherson Strut front suspension setup. The new suspension system should create a quieter ride that also has a lower center of gravity.
While the Acura TLX has always been an attractive luxury sedan, the 2021 Acura TLX turns the heat up by several notches with an overall sportier appearance. How did Acura achieve this? The new TLX is 7.8 inches longer from the dash to the axle and features shorter overhangs. This helps give the TLX look more like a traditional rear-wheel-drive sports car. The body is also more extensive, and the roof is lower. Attractive lines help give the new TLX a sleek, athletic appearance. The Acura grille has also been upgraded to look bolder than before.
The 2021 Acura TLX is here to keep you connected with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, as well as an all-new 10.2-inch infotainment display and a touchpad control on the center console in an easy-to-reach location. This replaces the dual-screen setup in the 2020 Acura TLX, which features two smaller screens. 2021 TLX drivers will also have the option to add an available 17-speaker premium audio system, which comes with the A-Spec Package and up and a 10.5-inch Heads-Up Display, which is only available on the Advance Package. AcuraWatch™ and its active safety features remain standard with traffic sign recognition and a driver awareness monitor.
