What’s New for the 2022 Acura MDX?
The Acura MDX, which was a popular luxury SUV to start with, gets comprehensive changes and updates that increase its appeal even more in 2022. The 2022 model year brings sweeping changes to the MDX, which arrives with redesigned exterior styling, an updated cabin, premium technology, and more room for occupants in all three rows of seats. The Acura MDX also has a powerful engine, and it will add a new trim called the Type S to the lineup later in 2021. The MDX kicks off its fourth generation of production heading into the new model year.
The Acura MDX comes in four trims, or packages, for 2022. The first level of the SUV is simply called the “MDX.” It offers considerable value for a base trim, especially in the field of luxury SUVs that otherwise tend to get expensive quickly. A panoramic sunroof is standard on the base trim, and it has a cushioned interior for a soft-touch feel no matter where you sit or rest your hands. Standard conveniences include a power liftgate and a keyless entry and ignition system. A central 12.3-inch display that is controlled through a touchpad comes standard on the MDX. It also has wireless phone charging capabilities, onboard WiFi, and wireless editions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. AcuraWatch™, which is a suite of cutting-edge safety technology, is also standard. This package contains lane-keeping assist, forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring.
With the second trim called “Technology,” the cabin upgrades from a 9-speaker sound system to a 12-speaker stereo. Ambient lighting with personalized settings is also added. You’ll get leather seats and sunshades in the back row. Parking sensors are included, and the exterior upgrades to 20-inch wheels. With the A-Spec comes a 16-speaker sound system and ventilated front seats. The Advance trim has premium leather upholstery, a 360-degree camera, and a heated steering wheel.
Most trims of the MDX will receive a 3.5L V6 engine for 2022. The standard engine produces 290 HP and 267 LB-FT in torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard. The new MDX Type S model, which joins the lineup in the summer of 2021, gets its own more powerful V6 engine capable of 355 HP and an identical output for torque. All-wheel drive is standard on the A-Spec trim and up, along with the new Type S model. Other trims offer it as an option.
